Central Rural Electric Cooperative and its fiber subsidiary, Centranet, were recently named Large Business of the Year by the Cushing Chamber of Commerce, recognizing the cooperative’s long-standing commitment to service, community investment, and innovation.
The award highlights Central’s role as a trusted partner in the Cushing area, delivering reliable electric service while continually evolving to meet the changing needs of its members. From infrastructure investments to community engagement, Central has played a vital role in supporting economic growth and quality of life across the region.
“This honor is a testament to the cooperative’s dedication to our core values and to always putting our members first,” said Shane Burgess, CEO of Central Rural Electric Cooperative. “Central has a long-standing reputation for investing in the communities we serve because we believe success is measured not only by reliable power, but by stronger, more connected communities.”
Central Rural Electric Cooperative has provided electric service to rural areas surrounding Cushing since the 1930s. Building on that legacy, the cooperative expanded into broadband services through Centranet, bringing high-speed fiber internet to areas underserved by other providers. In 2025, Centranet officially began serving fiber internet to residents and businesses within Cushing city limits, supporting education, healthcare access, remote work, and local commerce.
“We are excited about connecting subscribers in Cushing with Centranet,” Burgess said. “Expanding fiber access strengthens our commitment to serving our members and communities today, while positioning them for future opportunities.”
The Large Business of the Year award was presented during the Cushing Chamber of Commerce’s 99th Annual Business Awards Banquet & Membership Meeting, held January 15. The recognition reflects the cooperative’s continued focus on service excellence, innovation, and meaningful community partnerships.
